Write-up taken from the IRRI’s Rice Almanac (2013):

Mozambique extends nearly 2,500 km along the southeastern coast of Africa, with an area of 799,380 km2. Much of this consists of wide coastal plains, rising to low inland plateaus. Agriculture occupies about 81% of the workforce in a population of 23.9 million (2011). Arable land is 6.4% of the total area; however, agriculture makes up 32% of GDP.
