How Many Shots in a Latte?

In the latte world, you can never have the same preferences. Some always want a strong coffee, while others opt for a lighter coffee drink. The same applies here; you may be a fan of a single shot of espresso in your coffee. Another coffee lover may enjoy it more if it has a double shot.

A small hot cappuccino drink has one shot of espresso, while the large mug has a double shot of espresso. However, if you want to increase espresso and caffeine content in your macchiato, you can request your barista to add an extra shot of espresso to it.

What Is a Latte?

The name, ‘latte’ is a short form of cafe latte, an Italian word that’s used to refer to milk and coffee. A macchiato is an espresso-based drink you make with steamed milk, brewed espresso, and a foam layer. You can refer to lattes as milky because they contain more milk than all other coffee drinks.

You make your cappuccino with either a single shot of espresso or a double shot. Though, the standard size for the majority of coffee houses is 12 ounces. That means it has ten milk ounces and a double espresso shot.

For beginners, a macchiato is the best coffee drink to start with and increases your coffee palette as time goes by. That’s because it is a light coffee. You can never go wrong while experimenting with this coffee drink.

If you love art, you will have more fun with the lattes. That’s because latte arts are easy to make due to the texture and size of the milk.

How Many Shots Are in a Latte?

The small coffee glass has a single shot of espresso, while the large mug has a double shot of espresso. It all depends on what you prefer. Feel free to ask for an extra shot of espresso if you love strong coffee. Besides, you need to adhere to the perfect grind size when brewing for maximum results.

Increasing the espresso level in your coffee also raises the caffeine content in it. Therefore, you get all the energy you need to get through your day without a nap.

How To Prepare Your Capuccino

The steps to making a latte are similar to cappuccinos, though a latte requires more milk.

Ingredients

  • Brewed espresso
  • Steamed milk
  • Frothed milk

Equipment To Use

  • An espresso machine that has a steam wand
  • Coffee grinder
  • Whole roasted coffee beans
  • Latte mug
  • Milk jug
  • Thermometer

Procedure

  1. Grind the coffee beans to the required size and texture. If your espresso machine has a coffee grinder built-in, it is well and good. If not, use the grinder you have to grind the roasted coffee beans.
  2. Extract one to two shots of espresso. Use the coffee machine to brew your espresso. You can extract a single or double shot of espresso into your latte glass. It all depends on the coffee strength you need in your latte.
  3. Steam your milk. Your capuccino size determines the amount of milk you are going to use. Most coffee houses use whole milk. However, feel free to use any other milk you want. Remember to purge the steam wand before steaming the milk.
  4. Froth/foam your milk. Create a thin, smooth microfoam on top of your milk. When you finish frothing it, bump the milk jug on the table gently or tap it to remove the unwanted air bubbles in it.
  5. Pour the steamed and frothed milk into a latte mug with the brewed espresso. If you wish to create latte art, hold your latte mug in a slanting position and begin to pour the milk from afar. Move the milk jar closer as you get to fill the latte mug.

When you start pouring from afar, gravity helps in piercing the espresso. Through that, you create a nice foam layer on top of the cappuccino when you get close.

  • Your capuccino is ready. Enjoy.

Is a Latte Sweet?

The standard cappuccinos contain no sugar, sweeteners, or syrups. That makes it to be less sweet compared to other sweetened coffee beverages. However, latte variations like vanilla latte have added syrups and sweeteners. Though, you can still find their sugar-free versions.

What Differentiates a Latte From a Cappuccino?

Both latte and cappuccino are espresso-based drinks. Besides, both of them come with either single or double espresso shots, and if need be, you can order an extra espresso shot. However, some things make the two coffee drinks different:

Milk

A standard latte has 8-10 ounces of milk that is light in texture. You are also free to increase the milk if you need more. On the other hand, a cappuccino contains about 5 ounces of steamed milk.

The latte’s milk texture is silky and smooth. Also, the milk foam is not fluffy, but it is enough to create latte art. On the contrary, the milk texture for a cappuccino is frothier and contains more foam.

Drink size

Latte cups are about 12 ounces, and you can increase the size, while cappuccino sizes are almost 6 ounces, and you cannot often change the size.

How to Make an Iced Latte

Do you need something to cool yourself down during that hot summer day? An iced latte is the best choice for you. The procedure is similar to that of a hot latte.

You start by brewing espresso. Instead of using steamed milk, you will pour cold milk into a glass with the brewed espresso. Since you need a cold drink, scoop a few ice cubes and add them to your latte glass. And there you have your iced latte.

Final Thoughts

By now, I believe you have cleared your doubts about the number of shots in a latte. Unlike before, you can now order your favorite coffee drink knowing what you are paying to get. Again, you have all the keys to make your macchiato in any way, anytime, anywhere.
